If you’ve ever been to the dentist and have been told that you’ve got gum disease, then most likely you’ll be given a treatment which involves Corsodyl mouthwash. Many people suffer from gum disease but do not know it. The symptoms are bleeding gums when you’re brushing your teeth and bad breadth. Although you can live with the bleeding gum, a smelly mouth on the other hand can be quite embarassing. Imagine talking to your friends and noticing them turn their faces away because of the bad odour in your mouth! This can often lead to seclusion and stop you from laughing and socialising. Corsodyl mouthwash helps to treat gum disease and is quite efficient provided you do not use it just after you’ve brushed your teeth with a normal toothpaste.
Finding time to use Corsodyl mouthwash during the day can be hard but fortunately there’s Corsodyl Daily Toothpaste which keep your gums and teeth heathier. You can have the toothpaste in mint as well as the original one. The mint toothpaste was supposed to be better than the other one but guess what? Corsodyl Daily Toothpaste will give you a funny feeling in your mouth. It tastes like taste, horribly disgusting and will make you want to puke. You’re better off using the mouth wash rather than the toothpaste. You cannot even taste the mint and if you’re used to regular toothpastes like Colgate, Aquafresh, Macleans or Pearl Drops, you’ll immediately feel the difference.
The whole idea of using Corsodyl toothpaste was to save time by not having to use the mouth wash at a later period after brushing but the nauseous sensation from it will definitely refrain you from using it again. It costs around £4.50, so it’s quite expensive compared to other toothpaste which you can get for around £2 but if you want to give it a try, you can purchase it from Boots or Superdrug.
For healthy gums and teeth, you need to have a good oral care routine like brushing, flossing and using mouth wash to get rid of plaque. Corsodyl may stop or reduce gum disease but it will come back again if you’re not looking after your gums and teeth properly. So oral hygiene should be on your priority list if you want to get rid of gum disease.
A few weeks ago I saw an advert about the release of Super Mario Galaxy 2, as I bought the first and was very impressed I really wanted to purchase the second one as well. After Super Mario Galaxy 1 I bought New Super Mario Bros and reached the last level. I have been stuck on this level for over 3 months now and it’s just getting silly. I couldn’t resist and went online to find a walkthrough of the last level; I can’t believe how easy it looks, so why have I been struggling for 3 months? So getting back to Super Mario Galaxy 2 I decided to pre-order it because I wanted to get it before anyone else. It arrived one day before the official release date!
I purchased Super Mario Galaxy 2 through Game and got it at a reduced rate and with a Limited Edition Super Mario tin money box. Although I won’t actually use it I can give it to my nephew and it was the game that I really wanted.
Super Mario Galaxy 2 has exceeded my expectations, the first one was fantastic and flawless so I couldn’t even imagine how they could make it better, but they did. The graphics are exceptional and the levels are even more exhilarating. The only thing I have noticed is that it seems a little too easy; within an hour I had already completed the first level (world). Saying that it is aimed for the younger market and I am much older than most of the teenagers who will go out and buy it. The game itself costs around £40 buy you can get it cheaper if you shop around, it seems expensive but it is well worth it.
All Mario games also retain their value so if you finish it and trade it in you can still get enough money off another game you want to purchase. To be honest Mari is such a lovely game to play that you can play it again and again. When you finish the game you can always go back and collect all the things you missed like coins, medals and question marks.
If you have played Super Mario Galaxy then do not hesitate in purchasing the second one it is just as fun and the graphics are superb. It not only appeals to youngsters but adults can also have a fun time trying to conquer levels and beat the monsters. It truly is a fantastic game to play with no faults or any need for improvements.
As we know the RSPCA are an independent charity that rescue stray animals, care for injured animals and give out general information about caring or finding abandoned, injured or lost animals. Very rarely do people take the time to find out more about charities but there may be a day when you will need to use their services. The RSPCA website has changed over the years, as a child I remember that they used to have a whole library of information for all small pets and animals we may come across. Just the other day I needed some information and even the RSPCA website couldn’t help me. I felt bad about phoning but in the end I had no choice.
My RSPCA concern
While I was in the garden I noticed that my cat was acting strange he seemed like he was playing with something. As I took a closer look I realised he had caught a little bird and it was trying to escape. I managed to rescue it from the claws of my cat and put him in a little box. He was breathing and didn’t look injured at all but he wasn’t moving. Luckily we had straw from when we use to keep chickens so put some in a little box and waited for it to start moving again. As I went to get some information on the internet I realised that there isn’t any information about rescuing birds from cats. I couldn’t find any guidance to what I should do.
I did read that sometimes the bird suffers from shock but after it recovers it will fly off on its own. The little bird I found seemed to be too small to fly so I waited until it could give me some indication that it was ok. After an hour I decided I needed to call the RSPCA to find out what I needed to do, as I was getting up off the sofa the bird leapt out of its box and starting jumping everywhere. As it was only little I was trying not to step on it, eventually it hid under the sofa. I have a very large custom made U shape sofa so moving it was out of the question. I managed to get it out and put it back into the box. As it seemed to have recovered I decided to place him outside and see if he flies off.
I put him on my garden table and left after 10 minutes he was still there, I went so see him and he jumped out his box and hid in one of my fuchsia plants. I managed to get him and though if I threw him in the air he would start flying, he didn’t and fell straight back down again onto the grass. I then noticed he had hurt his wing.
I decided to call the RSPCA for some advice, the caller I had was an older man who thought he knew everything. When I told him I was calling about a little bird he went on to tell me things that I already knew, like it was a fledgling, it needs to be left alone blah blah blah. After he finished I the proceeded to tell him that I rescued it from my cat not that I found it, he wasn’t very helpful and told me to take it to my vets the first thing in the morning and they would look after it. I even had to ask if I had to feed it, he was very abrupt and simply said it should survive the night without food but some water should be left out.
First thing in the morning I went to check on the little bird, he spilt he water everywhere and was huddled in a corner trying to keep warm. I took him out and put him in a new box so he could dry off and warm up again. After 10 minutes I went to check up on him and he had died. I also discovered what I think may have been his mum; my cat had brought a bigger bird into the garden overnight. So after all that I couldn’t rescue a bird from the clutches of my cat.
As my partner and I work from home its quite annoying when the phone or the doorbell rings because you know you haven’t ordered anything or expecting any phone calls. Usually I’ll get people who are from the church, utility companies and sometimes canvassers trying to sell a product or service. Well today that’s exactly what I got, whilst I was busy working there was a knock on the door I wasn’t sure whether I should answer it or not, then the doorbell rang so I thought I’d have a quick look.
There was a well dressed man holding a leaflet, he asked if the house was bought or council owned before proceeding. He was trying to get me and my partner to buy new uPVC windows and doors, although we had considered doing this we decided to hold off until we were financially able to pay for them cash not on credit. As the man was going through his sale pitch I just couldn’t help but laugh, he was getting our phone number because the head office had to verify the call before sending someone out to give a quote. My partner gave a fake number and the sales man left.
I told my partner that he should’ve told him straight that he didn’t need new windows and that would have been the end of that. I told him that they would be back as the number he had given was fake. Sure enough in half an hour the salesman was back to verify our number, my partner then told the salesman that he changed his mind and to cancel the appointment. The sales man then said that the appointment had already been booked in for a quote at 4.30 – 5pm. He said that they would be turning up and we would have to deal with it ourselves. I found this really hard to take in as it is supposed to be a no obligation quote and we couldn’t cancel our ‘free’ appointment.
After the second visit from the salesman I searched the internet to find we had a lucky escape, there have been many people who have had to sign paperwork in order for the sales reps to leave the house! Some are still being bombarded with phone calls asking them to accept the quote; it’s really upsetting that such a large company can make you think twice before opening your door.
If you asked anyone about eBay 10 years ago many people would’ve just looked at you dumbfounded, but roll on another 10 years and eBay is now an internet sensation. Originally eBay was set up as a means for people to auction off unwanted items old or new, now you can set up small businesses and operate through eBay.
As eBay has improved security over the years there are now procedures in place that protect the buyer more so than the seller. Many large and small businesses use eBay as another way of selling their products on a top rated website. If you asked me a few years ago to buy something on eBay I would’ve been offended. eBay not only sell old items but there are many things you can buy that are new. In fact since buying my first home I have bought most of my furniture and other items such as, mattress, laptop battery, memory cards and so much more, all new and in their original packaging.
Is eBay really cheaper than other online retailers?
After using eBay to buy a lot of personal items and also do some research I have found in 95% of the case it is cheaper to buy through eBay. For example when I was looking to buy a new memory foam mattress and pillows it was costing well over £600 in the shops, £400 online and around £150 on eBay for everything including delivery. I was also looking for a new battery for my laptop and found it on Amazon, before I went through to pay for it I decided to look on eBay. I found that the same seller on Amazon was selling it for £5 less with free delivery saving me a total of £10!
I have also found that when you go to sellers that have set up small business and are selling ‘buy it now’ items if you visit their eBay shop you can also get it cheaper. It’s weird but true. Just recently I bought a makeup set from a seller on eBay I didn’t realise that they already had a website, when my order arrived I noticed they had a web address and decided to have a look. The makeup set I bought from eBay was actually cheaper on their website. This very rarely happens but in this case eBay was not the cheaper option.
The same goes for used items there are many things such as baby items that are really expensive but sell for less than half the retail price on eBay. You can make a bigger saving if you find a seller that is willing to let you pick it up, you therefore save on postage but it only works if they are in close proximity and the item is fairly useful. Happy Bidding!
The last time I cut my grass with a lawnmower I broke it! I had borrowed my mother’s cheap lawnmower in the hope of saving me some money before I decide on a brand that I trust. Due to the engine being less powerful and not knowing how to adjust the blade height I accidently snuffed it. I then had to fork out nearly £100 for a new one and vowed never to borrow it again.
So now it is a year later and I still hadn’t gotten round to choosing let alone buy a new lawnmower. Since I have quite a large garden over 80ft in length I was sure that a petrol lawnmower would be the best purchase for me, but after doing some reading I found that electric lawnmowers can be just as powerful and reliable if not better. Since I had bought my mum a Bosch Rotak lawnmower I decided to take a look at the higher end to see if they were any good.
I came across the Bosch Rotak 40 Electric rotary lawnmower, after reading many reviews I was happy that this machine would be reliable and competent enough to carry out the work. Bearing in mind that I hadn’t cut my grass in over a year so my grass was very overgrown as much as 15cm. The Bosch Rotak 40 looked very impressive with its 50L capacity grass box and blades at the side of the lawnmower meaning it cuts grass closer to the edge. The best feature was how easy it is to select the blade height, there’s no need to manual change the blade height there is a handy lever on the front of the lawnmower clearly displaying the blade height.
Bosch Rotak 40 Electric rotary lawnmower
When you take it out the box there are a few things to assemble like the grass box collector, the lawnmower handles and clips to keep the wire secured to the handle. After that all you need to do is adjust the blade height by using the lever and you off to go. The handling of the lawnmower is effortless and there is no need to go over the same area twice, when the engine is about to cut off it lets you know so you can go easy on it. I only had to empty the grass box collection about three times for my huge garden whereas my neighbour next door constantly has to empty out his. After watching my husband doing the first half of the garden I was tempted to give it a go myself and found that everyone can use this lawnmower with minimal effort. It was definitely worth the £135 price tag but shop around as you can get it for as little as £119 but as I needed it the very same day I couldn’t wait a week for delivery.
It’s been almost a year now since we’ve measured the total length of coving that we would need in our house and purchased it from Wickes. The plan was to put up coving as soon as we were done with painting the walls. However after most of the things were done in the house, we got too comfortable to do any more work.
Coving is not difficult to put up in the house – all you need is a measuring tape, a pencil, a fine tooth saw and some good glue (for polysterene coving, wood coving requires more work). However after doing so much in the house, you are completely drained down and just want to be able to sit down and relax for a bit. Soon this becomes a habit and you can no longer find the courage to actually do any work and the jobs pending remains unfinished.
A standard size room should not take that long to do the coving once you’ve mastered the art of cutting. You’ll find that having someone to help you will make things easier because it will be difficult for you to hold a long piece of coving by yourself and wait for the glue to do its job.
Personally I think that coving adds a bit of elegance to a house. It covers up the wall and ceiling joints nicely and gives a professional look. Although it doesn’t cost a lot to put up coving, it can make your house sell faster and add more value to it as well because at the end of the day, appearance counts a lot to potential buyers.
Having purchased my washing machine in 2004 the 5 year parts and warranty had now expired as well as the 3 year warranty that you purchase when you buy it but my Hotpoint washing machine was playing up. I preferred to have a Hotpoint engineer come out to repair it rather than a cowboy who may have charge me more. I had a quick look on the website and it stated ‘fixed price repairs’ £74.98, when I called they said it would cost around £105, I said it was cheaper on the website and they said that it was from£74.98.
Cost of repair from Hotpoint
There are two options for payment when I called, the first was a one off fee of £105 but if the engineer found nothing wrong the money would not be refunded. The second option was 10 monthly payments of £16.49 totalling £164.90 if the engineer couldn’t repair the machine the money would be refunded. I went for the second option just in case it was something silly; the washing machine also gets a year’s cover when purchasing the second option.
Washing machine problem
The problem with my washing machine is that after the wash cycle it refuses to rinse and spin, I thought maybe I had overloaded the machine one too many times and the bearings had gone stopping the drum from spinning. The only way I could get the machine to work is to select half load where less water would be used and the drum would actually spin. The policy did say that if the machine couldn’t be repaired I would have been able to purchase one half the price through Hotpoint rather than full price on the high street. I was hoping this would not be the case as it was a very good washing machine that had given me no problems until now.
The repair
When the engineer came out he asked about the problem and checked the drum, all was fine so he tilt it forward to check the motor and drainage. You guessed it the filter was so clogged up that the water would not leave the drum. That’s why my washing machine would not spin because the water couldn’t penetrate the filter and had nowhere to go. I felt so silly that I have now got to pay £164.90 for a year’s unnecessary cover and all that was wrong was the filter got clogged up!
Verdict
The engineer also told me not to use colour catcher or whitener as the paper casing clogs up the filter, I saw this also as he cleaned out my washing machine filter. He also said that all Hotpoint washing machines have a sensor and if the machine is not balanced it will not spin, the same applies of you only have one item to wash! I do think it was a rip off when I could have fixed the problem myself and I would advise others to check the internet before calling out an engineer. Chances are you can repair it yourself. Only attempt to repair it if the warranty has expired otherwise you may not be covered for tampering with it.
As my friend prepares for her imminent labour one of the silliest questions she felt she had to ask her midwife was will I poo during labour and if I do what happens? This is actually a very common questions that midwives are often asked. The answer is simple most women you do have bowel movement during childbirth don’t really know unless their partner or midwife tells them so. Midwifes have seen it all, and when a women does a poo during labour they just take it away without even mentioning it.
Pooing during water birth
Some women also have the fear of opening their bowels during a water birth, if the baby is born is soiled water it could have serious implications. Luckily when you have a water birth the midwife will be present so she will simply remove it with a net, similar to what you use to remove fish from a fish tank. If you decide to have a home water birth you will also receive a net as part of the package in case you do accidently do a poo.
How to prevent opening bowel during labour?
Some women claim that the body cleanses itself before going into labour and you will open your bowels a lot before the actual birth. As all women are different many women have stated that this is just not true and they were so embarrassed to have done a poo whilst in labour. Many women have claimed that taking iron supplements have made the problem worst, so if you suffer from anaemia you will have no choice than to take iron supplements. Avoid taking iron if you can as too much can make you open your bowels too often. Doctors advise you to eat plenty of fibre and drink a lot of fluids the week before you’re due as your body will cleanse itself that way. Once you are in labour avoid eating solid foods and drink plenty of water and soups instead. This should help preventing you from accidently pooing during labour.
Having an enema before childbirth?
Women who have had bad experiences of pooing during labour may be offered an enema before going into labour. It has been said that sometimes this is not offered and you may need to speak to your midwife beforehand. An enema will clean out your body prior to labour; it’s just like diarrhoea but a lot worse. When you are in labour you don’t even want to get up and use the toilet so it’s best to use the natural methods rather than have an enema as they are not really needed.
If your television, fridge or even car breaks down what would you do? I know most people would say that they could go without a television but with such crazy prices compared to just a few years ago you’d be stupid not to just buy a new one. A 50’’ television would cost well over £3000 a few years ago now they are selling for as little as £500, don’t believe me then shop around and see for your self.
When my dad’s fridge broke down a few weeks ago it was a little unexpected as it seemed to be fine, as my dad is a pensioner I offered to buy him a new one. As I set out to find a good reliable fridge he could use for years to come, he suggested I buy a second hand one instead to save some money.
When I had a look at second hand fridges they were really dated and you don’t really know how old they are. You could get a one for about £80 minus a year’s warranty so if anything should go wrong you’d have to fork out for the repairs.
I decided to buy him a larger fridge so he could store more food in the fridge and the freezer to save him going out every few days. I really wanted to buy him a branded fridge such as Hotpoint, Hoover or Samsung but I couldn’t really justify the £800 price tag. I shopped around online and found quite a few good deals under £300. As my dad is a very good handy person who has fixed many washing machines, bikes and even TV’s I knew a cheaper one would do as he could fix it should anything go wrong.
I narrowed the search down to three and one that stood out was FRIDGEMASTER MTRF200A WHITE 6.9 cu ft Fridge Freezer. The reviews were ok and for a single pensioner it should be ok. I never get extended warranty as appliances are most likely to break down after 5 years and in most cases you can purchase this directly from the manufacturer at a cheaper cost.
Fridgemaster MTRF200A
At the cost of £189.99 (2008) it was very reasonably priced, I did read the reviews and they were mixed. I do not really advise this for families as there isn’t really much room in the fridge compartment but the freezer size is very good. It’s not noisy and as my dad lives in a very small flat the fridge has to be in the open plan living / dining room where the TV is and we have never found it noisy. I would recommend this product as it has had no problems and is well suited for my single father who is a pensioner.
